Panel 1: Wide panel. We look over King's shoulder as Vanita and the Demon King sit in the blanket fort. Vanita holds a hand to her chin in thought. She says, "Yep. In the CLOSED stacks. Not for general circulation. And only university students can read it."

King asks, "Well...Do you know any students?"

Panel 2: Wide panel. Vanita squeezes her eyes shut in thought as around her are blank bubbles of thought.

Panel 3: tall panel. Close up on Vanita's hands texting on her smart phone. On the back is a picture of a cat barbarian. Vanita says, "I know someone who might." She types away with a TAPPITY TAPPITY TAP.

Panel 4: Cut to Charlie and Clow in Charlie's apartment. They are both startled when Charlie's phone vibrates in her hand.

Panel 4: Don holds a jar, asking, “...What’s this?” Claudia raises her head to see what he’s talking about and goes, “Oh!” Panel 5: Close up on the jar Don is holding. It’s labeled, “Sniffle Time Tea.” Claudia says from off-panel, “A new girl came in and dropped those off for consignment earlier today.”

She smiles and blushes. Panel 4: Don kisses Claudia’s belly and says, “Now be good for your mother.” Claudia smiles. Panel 5: Don gets to tidying up the bookcase by the register. Claudia tallies something on a clipboard. The shop is quiet.

  • Panel 1: Don places a bag full of takeout on the counter. Upon seeing it, Claudia smiles and claps her hands. Don: I come bearing Mawit food. Panel 2: Claudia kisses his cheek – MWAH – and says, “Bless you!” Panel 3: Don walks around the counter and stands by Claudia. Claudia: I still have to close out the register, though. Don: That’s fine. You do that, I’ll tidy up the store. Panel 4: Claudia sits down on a stool to rest her pregnant belly. Don kneels beside her. Claudia: Oh, but let me sit down first. Don: How’s the baby? Panel 5: Close up on the pregnant belly as Claudia says, “Sleeping right now.”

Inside of Mystic Moon, Claudia is counting cash at the register. Panel 3: Claudia looks up from counting, smiling. She says, “Hey, baby.” Panel 4: In comes Don, her partner, in a tank top and jeans, betraying his hairy arms, messy mop of hair, and scruffy beard. He smiles at her, and says, “Good evening, Starshine.”

We only see Mister Wintergate’s hand and crooked smile as he leers over the viewer, shirtless. Panel 3: Present day. King clenches a fist. Panel 4: Very close up on King as they glare, recalling this memory. Panel 5: Vanita speaks up and draws King’s attention. Vanita asks, “Did ‘King’ as a name come after...Wintergate’s accident? Panel 6: We see King from behind their head, looking away. Part of the speech trails into the next panel. King says, “Yes. But it was a name I did not ask for. The voices of the desperate and downtrodden bestowed it upon me after they heard my story.” Panel 7: Flashback. King, younger, stands before an enormous crowd of people, all cheering with arms raised.

King (present): “...I have hated this body ever since Wintergate forced me into it.” Panel 2: Present day. Vanita’s face softens as she looks at the Demon King. We cannot see his face. Panel 3: Flashback. We see Wintergate’s pale hand holding a book of magic open. On the pages are a picture of a demon and some text we cannot read. King (present): “When I had been reshaped, well...to cast the spell requires the name of the person you are transforming. And as soon as the deed is done - Panel 4: Zoom in on the text of the book from panel 3. We see a list of names, with one name turning into dust and flying away on the wind. King (present): “ - that original name is lost. Because the original is now gone.”

As tends to be the case with the best paranormal comics of this type, the main draw is that it's all about the relationships-- relationships that aren't exactly steamy, they're more caring...."
